Do Positive Affirmations Really Work?

This blog about affirmations is purely from MY experience only. I am not wanting to vouch for others – I just want to share with you my experiences about affirmations and thinking positively.

Come with me as I take you back to 2005 where my life took an ‘off track turn’ and I hit rock bottom. I don’t really want to go into exactly all that happened, but I can tell you this.

At the time it was traumatic and life changing as well. It was the most difficult times I’ve experienced in my 47 years on this great planet.

The most difficult time, yet at the same time, the best learning curves ever!  To cut a long story short I had two choices.

To continue on with living the life I had been living and end up dead, or to change my mindset and actions and begin again a beautiful new life.

I chose the latter.

My First Experiences With Positive Affirmations

I remember as a school kid hearing about affirmations from a teacher on a bus excursion. At the time, they sounded like they were magical things that if you said a few words a few times, things would magically appear before me.

Ha! I was wrong… yet ins some ways, I was hearing a new way of life that is very possible.

It wasn’t until my late 30’s that I really put positive affirmations to the test.  I needed to use them.  I was given a diagnosis of an illness that could go one way or the other.

I was not going to be beaten here. And so, my positive thoughts and affirmations began.

Each day I would place some affirmations on my ipod and also pin them up in my room so I could see them on a daily basis. Here are some of my favorites;

  • Every day in every way I’m getting better and better
  • I am healthy, wealthy and wise
  • I love my life
  • Life brings me all that I’ve ever needed and desired
  • I’m feeling great on the inside and looking great on the outside
  • My life is the best it’s ever been

These were affirmations I recorded and put on my ipod. Some of them were recorded subliminally and some of them had my voice on them so I could hear them. I used a program called MINDZOOM and you can read all about that program here.

As I was walking my dogs on the beach, I would be saying these affirmations out loud (No one was around, and even if they were, tough luck – I was on a mission!!!).

At first, I did not believe them, however as the days went by, I grew more and more passionate about the affirmations. I would even speak them out LOUDLY as I walked along the beach, and with much passion too.

I think saying affirmations with much passion and emotion makes them work wonders; as it evokes feelings in you and the feelings helped me to change and have new expectations.

Now, I must tell you here that affirmations do not simply work over night.

You must remember that years of negative programming need to be replaced with a positive mindset and a new way of thinking positively.

It took probably two years of repeating my “mantras” over and over again before I could finally say that I was back on track.

I understand that two years sounds like a long time.

But in the big scheme of things, it’s a blink of an eye. And as I told you  previously, I was in no position to take the other option.

I wanted life and I wanted to live in a more  fruitful, positive way.  Also remember that I was changing about 30 years of negative self talk – so two years does not seem so bad after all!

So Where Did The Affirmations And Positive Thinking Lead Me?

Fast track about 7 years now… My life has unlimited abundance, my health is great, I am self employed and operate a wonderful healing site called “Relax Me Online.” All in all, I am blessed and so happy to have the life I have.

I was only just peeling off my walls the other day affirmations that I had put up 7-8 years ago. It was kind of funny taking them down, as what I was taking down was exactly how my life is today. I feel empowered, blessed and enriched beyond my wildest dreams.

If insomnia is plaguing you, your clock may be the problem. Clocks can distract you too much if you are always looking at them while trying to sleep. You should avoid purchasing clocks that are illuminated or noisy.

If you have tried your best to get rid of insomnia, you may need sleep medication. Speak with your doctor and see if there are any sleep aids that will work for your situation.

Avoid eating or drinking before going to bed. Eating could actually stimulate your digestive system and keep you from sleeping while drinks could keep you running to the bathroom at night. Try not to consume anything, therefore, at least 90 minutes before sleep. Late nighttime eating is also known to affect your dreams.remedy for insomnia

Place the body into a north/south plane position. The head should be pointed north and the feet towards the south. Your body becomes aligned with earth’s magnetic field and this leads to a state of harmony. It’s certainly not the most common practice for beating insomnia, but it’s still very effective for some people.

RLS or restless leg syndrome occurs when your legs are uncomfortable feeling and cannot relax. You might feel like you have to move them because they are twitching. Restless Leg Syndrome can cause insomnia.

Just like children when they’re young get to bed faster when they use a routine every day for bedtime, you can get yourself to fall asleep and keep asleep if you too have a routine before sleeping. Try a warm bath, perform breathing exercises or listen to relaxing music. Do this at regular times to let your body adjust and know when it’s time to sleep.

Tryptophan is a natural sleep inducer. A dinner that contains this substance may be the start of a peaceful night of rest. For example, turkey, milk and eggs have tryptophan. Make sure that you drink milk that has been warmed up or heated. Cold milk isn’t effective.

If you have had insomnia for many nights, think about heading to the doctor. Many times insomnia is only temporary; however, there may be an underlying medical problem causing your insomnia. See your doctor and discuss your problem so another major cause can be ruled out.

insomnia remedyCheck with your local physician before you take any over the counter sleeping aids. This is very important if you plan on taking it for an extensive period of time. You might find relief with the pill now and again, but you could discover that long term using is tough on your body.

Eating a huge meal before bed is not wise, but going to sleep hungry isn’t either. A small-sized snack that is packed with carbs may just help you sleep that much better. It can release serotonin and help you relax.

Avoid using your bedroom for any activity besides sleeping and getting dressed. If you do a lot of other activities there, your body may begin to respond to the room with anxiety. You can retrain your brain to consider it only a place to sleep by only sleeping there!

Create a sleep diary so you can identify any problems you may be having. Write down the things you eat and the exercise you have done. Compare that to the sleep you get. By knowing what helps you sleep or what doesn’t, you can make changes for the better.

Worrying about the next day can keep you awake at night. For example, pay your bills in the middle of the day as opposed to at night. Eliminate as many concerns as you can during your day. If necessary, write down a list of things that must be done the next day right before you lay down for bed.

The time you exercise is important. Morning exercise is the best in many ways. This is because you don’t want a spike in metabolism right before bed. The goal is to achieve a natural body slowdown.

As you probably know, caffeine is a big contributor to insomnia. Caffeine is easy to find in many foods and drinks, but it speeds up the metabolism and interrupts sleep patterns. You may not know when to quit consuming caffeine. If insomnia strikes you nightly, avoid caffeine after two in the afternoon.

Get rid of insomnia once and for all. Rather, concentrate on the advice given here so that you are able to defeat insomnia. It doesn’t make sense to disturb your routine and have a hard time handling your daily life. It’s time you started getting the sleep you’re entitled to. What is the best quality music for meditation? This has got to be the question of the century, and in all honesty, there are many different answers depending upon what you would like to get out of your meditation and  what your style of meditation might be – Ie, What is enjoyable for you to listen to whilst meditating. ? In this article, I will cover 3 different types of meditation music –

Ambient Music

This is of course one of the most popular ways for people to meditate. It’s soothing. It’s melodic and music that’s gentle for the soul. It can assist us in the quest for gaining greater peace of mind. For instance, check out Dr. Christopher Lloyd Clarke’s relaxation music. Although hebest meditation music is not popular to the masses (just yet!), his music is one of the best I’ve heard for meditation. Yes, I’ve promoted him before. Although relaxation music may not be scientifically studied and proven to heal, I have no doubt in my mind that music can be more healing than a lot of medical science provides in the world today. We should never underestimate the power of meditation and relaxation music.

I would like to share with you yet another musician that has reached me for many years with his music – and his work truly takes me away when I meditate; that is the music of Japetus.  Japetus is an Australian composer who has been composing ambient music since the early 1980’s. I first listened to his music around 1985 whilst meditating and it was heavenly to say the least. Yes, it helped me to reach amazing heights during my meditation period of that time. Now, I have much to cover in this blog and I don’t want to go on too much as I have much to cover, however  just five more artists to mention: Paul Headon (Australia), Dr Harry Henshaw (USA) , Clinton Lourey (Australia),  JS Epperson (USA) and Robert Rudnik. Binaural Beats

Binaural beats are heavenly. They truly are. Have you experienced them yet whilst meditating? If not, please do so… NOW! They make the process of meditation seem to happen at a much faster speed.  Some have even reported that we can meditate as deep as a Zen Monk with binaural beats.

So what are binaural beats? They were discovered way back in 1839 by a man by the name of  Heinrich Wilhelm Dove. It was discovered that these binaural beats he produced helped with inducing creativity, relaxation, meditation, and a variety of other mental states desired by people. Binaural beats are separate frequency  tones played in each ear with the difference between frequencies of tones played in each ear determines the brainwaves’ effect. For instance, if a sound of 250 Hz is being played in the right ear with 260 Hz in the left, the frequencybest meditation music of the beat will be 10 Hz. The human brain emits strong signals filled with energy. ‘Waves’, as they are called, are emitted every second during an individual’s lifetime. These brainwaves’ frequencies vary based on the feelings and thoughts that occur in the minds of people. According to the Law of Attraction, we have the ability to attract whatever we lay our focus on, thus helping you control your emotions, thoughts, and feelings.

I put binaural beats to the test one day… and guess what? They passed with flying colours! I put on my headphones as I listened to Theta binaural beats play underneath a beautiful soundtrack of storm and rain. Well, simply put, it was an amazing experience. I felt like at one point that I had left my body. Tingles began to happen throughout my entire body. So , at this point I could say that this was the best music for meditation!

Brainwave Entrainment – the best music for meditation?

Brainwave Entrainment is a rapidly growing field that involves the study of how changing brainwaves by natural means, will allow people to effortlessly enter states of increased intelligence, creativity, relaxation, pure energy, and more. Here is a little of the science behind this fascinating subject: The brain is made up of billions of brain cells called neurons, which communicate with each other using electrical signals. All of these neurons sending signals at once, produce a large amount of electrical activity, commonly called a Brainwave Pattern. Researchers and scientists have found that different bands of brainwaves, are associated with different mental states. For example, the brainwaves of a sleeping person are much different than the brainwaves of a person who is awake.

best meditation musicYears of research has shown that brainwaves not only provide insight into an individual’s mind and body, but they can be stimulated to actually change that person’s mental state. That’s right, by causing the brain to produce, or decrease, specific types of brainwave frequencies, it is possible to bring about a large variety of mental states, and emotional reactions.

In a 1973 issue of Scientific American, Dr. Gerald Oster examined how combining two pure tones, resulted in a rhythmic beat, which he called Binaural and Monaural Beats. In comparing Binaural beats against Monaural beats, Oster noted that Monaural beats were shown to elicit extremely strong cortical responses, which is the electrical activity responsible for entrainment. Oster concluded, they could be useful in diagnosing certain neurological disorders.

In the 1980′s, Dr. Glen Solomon and others, researched entrainment for headache relief, as well as general relaxation. In 1981, Arturo Manns published a study showing the effectiveness of Isochronic Tones as a means of audio-based brainwave entrainment. This was later confirmed by others, such as David Siever. Michael Hutchison also wrote his landmark book, MegaBrain, in 1981, outlining the many possible uses of entrainment, from meditation to enhancing creativity. Listening to a particular type or genre of music can help alter your brainwaves significantly. When you listen to brainwave entrainment – the technology used to scientifically develop auditory tunes, your brain’s electrical activity is stimulated in a manner such that it follows a specific frequency.

You can even make your own Brainwave entrainment music here… of if you are not feeling too creative, purchase ready made entrainment here. I have found brainwave entrainment to be like magic. But it does take work and continuous use to gain the REAL benefits of relaxation.

So there you have it. Really, the best music for meditation is the one that is BEST for YOU! It is a personal choice. In all honesty, I’ve found great experiences in all of the above at different times.

How to make brainwave entrainment & Binaural beats – easy!

Firstly, what is brainwave entrainment? (Please click for a full explanation) I want to share with you a way to make easy (very simple) brainwave entrainment and binaural beat recordings. I’ve been using a program now for the past 4 years that makes this whole process so damned easy and more importantly FUN to use. It’s like having a blank canvas to paint on and the choices are amazing.

For me, it’s about helping me to relax and reduce anxiety as it builds up. Firstly in a nut shell, brainwave entrainment are recordings (they can be visual as well as sound) that have brainwave patterns on them to assist our minds to mimic these brainwave petterns to being about a different state of mind. For instance, when we listen to certain types of music (heavy metal for instance), it can get our heart rate up and get us moving about. It has different wave forms in the music that do that to us. When we listen to brainwave entrainment, it also has different wave formations (for instance Theta waves) that can bring us into a more relaxed and tranquil state. Simply by listening to the sounds, our brains begin to be ‘entrained’ with new pathways. relaxing us, soothing us.

I am not too good with words here so bare with me. Here is a link from Relax Me online that really explains it in full and precisely if you want to have a good understanding of entrainment recordings. basically though, I can tell you this much. It works!!!

I had a court case a few years ago (where I was a victim of an assault) and just before court I was so anxious and nervous and was not looking forward to it at all. I played on my ipod a brain entrainment track that I had made myself with the program I use Neuro-Programmer. (More on this program in a moment) By the time the court case came up, I was so relaxed, centered and had no anxiety. I walked in calmly … and needless to say the courtcase worked well. I said my piece with honesty, integrity and calmness and before I knew it, it was over and I had won. The entrainment assisted me to deep breathe and let go of tension and anxiety.

Since this time, not only do I use it myself, but I produce it for others to relax to as well 🙂

And then they have mystical sounds, orchestral sounds and so much more.

On top of all of this, you can add binaural beats to your recording. OR, you can simply have binaural beats ONLY and have nothing else on the recording. Just at the push of a button.!!!

So you can hear on this video some of the beautiful music you can produce… and the good thing the capabilities are endless. You can add a track with rain and binaural beats, or brainwave entrainment and classical music. It’s totally up to you how you want to make your recordings.

If you are really keen and want to make money from the recordings you make, you can purchase a full commercial license (this costs big dollars around $700.00) but it is Sooooooo worth it!

Aside from the brainwave entrainment and binaural beats, you can also use this as a tool for hypnotherapy and you can record your own voice (or use a computer generated voice) for a guided meditation/hypnosis session.

This all in all kinda sounds like a sales pitch for this program… It’s not! It’s meant to be for dummies like me that just want to push a few buttons and BINGO, you have a recording designed to address a specific goal or problem.  I am on this program every day and can’t get enough of it. When I sell on Ebay, neither can my customers purchase enough from me. I purchased the full commercial license and have made my money back in the thousands of dollars over the past 3-4 years.
